Hosting a Server

So you want to host a ZDWars server! Lets start with the basics here. The first thing is knowing how to host a server via Doomseeker or IDE (I’ll post a link with a guide as they become available). Once you’ve established this the next thing would be determining your upload bandwidth and the number of players that you would allow. Keep in mind that ZDWars is a very bandwidth heavy game and a spectating player alone will add more pressure on your server. If you’re hosting to LAN then you really need not to worry about this so much as someone who’s hosting to the public. The best way to determine the number of players to allow is to gauge your upload speed. The best way to do this would be to go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and see where you fall. I say if you measure at 2MB/S or less for upload speeds it would probably be best to keep it at 3 players tops on smaller maps with 6 slots total. Anything else would really be up to you to decide. Gametype = LMS or TLMS (Technically you can also play CTF, Coop, Survival, and Invasion modes now too, but there aren’t any special game modes for those just yet…)
Difficulty = Ultra-Violence (Don’t use nightmare. That would cause respawning and you don’t want that)
DMFlags = 2097152 (for no crouching)
DMFlags2= 0
CompatFlags = 0
Maplist = ZDWARS1-ZDWARS33
TLMS Number of teams = sv_maxteams * (* indicates the number from 2-4)

A final thing to make sure of is to set ‘lms_spectatorchat 3’ once the servers up otherwise spectators will not be able to communicate with the players. Now get out there and have some fun hosting!

Another thing, the game now has altering CVARs. These are applied by typing ‘set *insertcvarhere* 1’ in the console unless otherwise specified. The list of ones available are:

ZDW_HeroReimbursement: If set to 1, mana refunds from missumoned heroes are turned off
ZDW_Items: If set to 1, no items will be dropped by monsters or players.
ZDW_ManaRegenerationSpeed: Controls the rate of mana regeneration. 0-17 are valid multipliers
ZDW_HeroManaRegenerationSpeed: Controls the rate of hero mana regeneration. 0-70 are valid multipliers
ZDW_FlightLimiter: If set to 1, removes the flight limiter set for Virus and the flight items
ZDW_MonsterRemover: If set to 1, turns off the monster remover
ZDW_TeamFriendlyFire: If set to 1, players take team damage
ZDW_SummonerSpeed: If set to 1, players are given rage runes
ZDW_Cooldowns: If set to 1, hero cooldowns will be disabled
ZDW_AllSummoners: If set to 1, you will start with all available summoners for your class
ZDW_Heroes: If set to 1, disables heroes from being summoned. Also affects ‘ZDW_AllSummoners’
ZDW_VanillaSummoners: If set to 1, all LMS classes will be vanilla colored
ZDW_ClassicWeaponSwitch: If set to 1, summoners will no longer autoswitch
ZDW_Revives: If set to 1, monsters can be revived an infinite number of times
ZDW_HeroLimit: If set to 1, disables the hero limit players have
ZDW_StartingMana: Controls the amount of mana players start with. Default is 100
ZDW_StartingHeroMana: Controls the amount of hero mana players start with. Default is 0
ZDW_StartingArmor: Denotes how much armor players start with. Default is 0
ZDW_DoubleMaxMana: If set to 1, players will be able to carry 1000/400 mana instead of 500/200
ZDW_UncappedHealthRegeneration: If set to 1, players health will regenerate indefinitely
ZDW_HealthRegeneration: If set to 1, health will no longer regenerate
ZDW_OldSkoolHud: If set to 1, the fullscreen hud will be switched to the pre ZDoom Wars 2.4 version
ZDW_Flight: If set to 1, all classes will have the ability to fly

Hopefully a launcher will be made that allows you to apply these without much thought or effort.
